Delta Air Lines (DAL  ) and Starbucks (SBUX  ) recently announced a new rewards program collaboration, allowing customers to connect their separate loyalty accounts together.

American customers who are in both the Delta SkyMiles and Starbucks Rewards can connect their accounts by going to deltastarbucks.com or starbucksdelta.com. Members will then gain one mile per dollar expended on certain Starbucks purchases.

On the days in which established members have scheduled flights with Delta, they will gain twice the amount of Stars on specific purchases at certain Starbucks establishments. Any member can obtain this specific benefit, including both current members and new members of the loyalty program.

"We're continuing to evolve Delta's SkyMiles program to give our customers valuable, premium experiences not just on the days they travel but in their everyday lives as well," said Prashant Sharma, Vice President of Loyalty at Delta. "Through this new partnership with Starbucks, we can deliver more moments and interactions that matter, both in the air and on the ground."

The Starbucks Rewards program has been around since 2009 and has only increased in appeal with time. It provides free rewards, personalized offers, games, exclusive deals, and the feature of paying directly on the Starbucks app. At the beginning of 2022, Starbucks added on to mobile order and pay by placing them in airports throughout the United States.

Delta's SkyMiles program outdid all airlines on a global level for the sixth year in a row, according to U.S. News & World Report. In U.S. News' ratings, it considers five aspects: how easy or difficult it is to obtain a round-trip flight for free; additional benefits; network coverage; flight volume; and airline quality ratings.

Customers have many perks that are available to them through Delta SkyMiles, such as miles that do not expire and upgrades to Delta One on domestic flights.

If customers would like to truly benefit from this opportunity, they should connect their accounts as soon as possible to SkyMiles. Stars do expire, but not until six months after they are claimed, so customers have plenty of time to obtain the benefits of their rewards.
