XPeng Inc. (XPEV  ) CEO Xiaopeng He on Thursday showcased a modular flying car prototype that allows an aircraft to emerge from the vehicle and detach automatically with what he described as one-click separation and reconnection, highlighting the Chinese automaker's push to turn a futuristic concept into a commercial product. In a post on X, He wrote that "many friends still find it hard to believe there's an aircraft inside our car," before adding that the process is "really that simple."

The post included a roughly 40-second video showing a six-wheeled electric vehicle on ice opening its rear compartment and releasing a black eVTOL module whose landing legs extend as flight components unfold. The vehicle is XPENG AEROHT's "Land Aircraft Carrier," a two-part system built around automatic separation and reconnection, so the switch from driving to flying is a one-click operation. Industry and company materials describe it as a "mothership" road vehicle that carries a detachable aircraft in the back.

Prototype Enters Early Batch Trial Production

The project has moved into batch trial production, though it remains in an early stage. Xinhua reported on March 6 that about five Land Aircraft Carrier units had rolled off the pilot line and entered testing.

XPENG's press materials say the vehicle combines a rugged six-wheeled ground module with a detachable two-seat electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft. The road module uses a range-extended powertrain with about 1,000 kilometers, or roughly 620 miles, of combined range, and it can recharge the air module for up to six flights.

XPENG Eyes Middle East After China

The company has said deliveries in China are scheduled to begin in 2026. Beyond China, Shanghai-based business news publication, Yicai Global, reported in October 2025 that XPENG AEROHT planned to begin deliveries to Middle Eastern customers in 2027, marking what would be the first international expansion for the vehicle.

That push is backed by new factory capacity. In October 2024, XPENG AEROHT began building a manufacturing base in Guangzhou dedicated to the air module of the Land Aircraft Carrier. The company said the site would cover about 180,000 square meters and eventually support an annual capacity of 10,000 units, a sign that XPENG sees low-altitude urban mobility as more than a stunt video on social media.

Benzinga's Edge Stock Rankings indicate that XPEV has a positive price trend in the short term, but a less favorable outlook in the Medium and Long term. The stock closedf 2.87% lower at $17.29 on Thursday.
