Although the console faces component shortages, Sony Interactive Entertainment resolved these issues. It is reportedly shipping more than double the number of PS5 consoles than last year to meet the "unprecedented demand."
The PS5 will catch up to the PS4's sales by August 2023 and exceed them by December of this year.
Moreover, the console is poised to outpace the PS4 across all key performance indicators by February 2024. These include console user spending, full game unit sales, gameplay hours, monthly active users, and monthly active consoles.
PlayStation VR2 Exceeds Expectations
Sony also boasts that the PSVR 2, its latest virtual reality headset, has achieved a stronger start than anticipated.
The Tokyo-based company disclosed that the PSVR 2, sold nearly 600,000 units in its first six weeks following its launch in February. It even outperformed the original PSVR, which sold around 500,000 units in the same period.
PlayStation: Eyes On Cloud Gaming
Sony CEO Jim Ryan touted the company's "aggressive plans" for the cloud gaming space.
"We observe mobility in gaming habits to be an increasingly important trend, and the cloud will be fundamental to allowing us, or indeed anybody else, to exploit that trend," Ryan said, according to VGC.
"Unfortunately, today is not the place for me to disclose these plans, but we do have some fairly interesting and quite aggressive plans to accelerate our initiatives in the space of the cloud that will unfold over the course of the coming months."
Unlike rival Microsoft Corporation's
Ryan's comments suggest that the feature is in the works.
