Samsung continues to innovate by making sleek foldable phones. In September of 2019, Samsung released the Galaxy Fold that is priced over $1,000. However, claims have been made that Samsung plans on releasing a new foldable phone in 2020 sooner than expected. People have questions about why Samsung would release another new Galaxy Fold so early, but reports have speculated that the next phone would have a completely different design from the phone released in September.

On December 30, Yonhap News Agency reported that Samsung will release its new foldable phone in February 2020. The agency claimed that the new phone will have a clamshell design in contrast to the previous phone book-like design. Yonhap also claimed that Samsung is already discussing matters with South Korea's three major mobile carriers to hash out a release date for their new mobile device. Reports stated that during the Unpacked 2020, an event where Samsung showcases their new devices, the company would reveal the new phone. Not only that but there will not be a gap between the reveal and launch of the phone. Speculations say that once the new folding phone is revealed, it will be immediately released.

With this new phone design on the horizon, Samsung hopes to have another way to hook people who are interested in foldable phones. Another important thing to notice is that this upcoming foldable phone is not the Galaxy Fold 2. Even though this new folding phone is coming out after the Galaxy Fold, reports suggest that this phone will be called and considered something different. The Korea Herald reported that there will be a Galaxy Fold successor or the Galaxy Fold 2 in August. However, the unnamed phone rumored to launch in February, due to it having a different design, is mostly likely not considered Galaxy Fold 2.

One of the biggest problems customers have with the Galaxy Fold is the crease that forms on the screen. With the new design of the next folding phone, Samsung hopes to fix that problem. The advantage of the new phone's vertical fold is that the place where the phone folds will be much smaller. Reports also believe that the unnamed phone will have a slightly different screen to help prevent dust from getting into the phone's fold. Always remember that this information is only claims and shouldn't be taken as fact. Although if the rumors are correct, people can expect to get their hands on the new phone in February.

Although Samsung is a publicly traded company, it is difficult to trade on the traditional platforms in the U.S. since the company is not listed on the NYSE or Nasdaq. However, investments can be made through ETFs like iShares MSCI South Korea ETF (EWY  ) and Franklin FTSE South Korea ETF (FLKR  ), both of whom count Samsung among their major holdings.
