What Analysts Are Saying
Strong product diversification and a large user base led to a recent Outperform initiation from Evercore ISI analyst Adam Frisch.
Frisch, who gave shares a price target of $130, said Robinhood has a "robust user and deposit base that's rapidly scaling."
The analyst said Robinhood is a "compelling" option for investors for exposure to the fintech sector with deposit growth expected and more monetization opportunities.
"Notably, their recent expansion into prediction markets and institutional avenues appears underappreciated by the market, potentially unlocking significant value," Frisch said.
Here are other recent analyst ratings for Robinhood and their price targets:
- Rosenblatt: Initiated with Buy rating, with price target of $135
- Needham: Maintained Buy rating, raised price target from $123 to $126
- JPMorgan: Maintained Neutral rating, raised price target from $103 to $115
- Wells Fargo: Maintained Equal-Weight rating, lowered price target from $125 to $120
Robinhood stock recently fell after reporting August monthly metrics. While some figures, such as funded customers, platform assets and net deposits, showed strong growth, user activity and prediction market volumes were less encouraging for investors.
The company said equity trading volume in August rose 1% from July, while options contracts traded fell 10%.
Crypto trading was up 61% from July, but came in 38% lower year-over-year.
Prediction market contracts traded totaled 4.7 billion in August, down 23% from July. Prediction markets have been one of the key growth metrics for the company, and this monthly figure could signal waning interest, slower growth than expected, or lost market share to competitors.
While it may not factor into third-quarter results, Robinhood launched an extended marketing campaign against rival Webull Corp.
Robinhood could say whether that blitz led to increased account transfers in recent weeks.
In the second quarter, event contracts, options and equities all saw strong year-over-year growth, while cryptocurrency revenue was down 38% year-over-year.
With August showing weakness in cryptocurrency and prediction markets, the quarter could grow more slowly than projected.
Overall, Robinhood has been benefiting from user growth and more monetization opportunities among customers. Those two factors are driving higher user metrics and revenue per user.
Investors and analysts will also be closely watching those financial metrics.
