Technology is always growing and evolving. Phones and computers may change over time, but the core of their functions remain the same. Unfortunately, the same can't be said for video game consoles. Although, consoles get better and more advanced than the previous one, certain consoles can only play certain games. So there will also be some games out there that people will never get to play. And it looks like the chance for gamers to play Wii games is slowly coming to an end.

Recently, the video game giant Nintendo (NTDOY  ) announced that it will stop repairing the Wii console in Japan. The Nintendo Wii came out in November 2006 making the console 13 years old currently. The console was able to play both Wii and GameCube games. The Wii became the fourth most successful video game console of all time with 101.6 million units sold.

The Wii was only topped by three Sony (SNE  ) consoles: PlayStation, PS2 and PS4. The system was succeeded by the Wii U in 2012 which was not as popular. However, Nintendo turned it around with their Switch that came out in 2017.

Nintendo stopped developing and producing the console in 2013. And now the company in Japan said they will stop repairing the gaming system on March 31, 2020. Nintendo Japan's website announced that technical support for the Wii will come to an end on the same day.

The company stated that due to the issue of obtaining parts to repair Wii units, repairs have to stop. Parts to fix the system have just become too scarce. Nintendo's branches in the U.S. and Europe didn't respond to requests for comment. So it is still unknown if Nintendo U.S. and U.K. will declare the same. For those who have a Wii and wish to see it fixed, it is best to do something now before it is too late.
