This week, billionaire Elon Musk said that he would provide services from SpaceX in order to enable NASA to create next-generation spacesuits, in spite of the fact that it will likely cost over $1 billion. Musk tweeted, "SpaceX could do it if need be," in reply to NASA's inspector general discovery that the spacesuits required for a prearranged moon landing in 2024 will not be prepared on time.

In the past, the SpaceX has established and crafted flight suits for astronauts who went into orbit in the SpaceX's Crew Dragon spacecraft. The suits were created in order to safeguard astronauts against fires or other such disasters. Although crafting this new particular brand of spacesuits may prove to be a difficult feat because of the intense survival need in space atmospheres, it is nevertheless a challenge that Musk would like to face.

"I personally spent a lot of time - it took us three, almost four years to design these suits that both look good and work well," Musk revealed regarding the inception of the spacesuit design during NASA's live coverage of the launch attempt this past Wednesday.

The New York Times reported that Musk consulted with Jose Fernandez, who is a popular costume designer for films such as "Batman v. Superman," "The Fantastic Four," "The Avengers," "X-Men II," and many more, so that he could become inspired with ideas for by crafting his own spacesuits.

Musk also stated that he would like to craft spacesuits that ignite or inspire passion in children so that they may desire to become astronauts someday as well - "to get them fired up," he said.

Although the launching of the spacesuit is not yet complete, Musk has proven that he is already going in the right direction by striving to finish what he has started. Although he believes that there are "too many cooks in the kitchen" regarding the creation and execution of these new spacesuits, he is nevertheless devoted to his projects, and will surely see this one all the way through.
