Alphabet Inc.'s (GOOG  ) (GOOGL  ) Google's artificial intelligence assistant, Gemini, has achieved a significant milestone of 1 billion monthly active users, the company announced on Tuesday. According to Google's data, 63% of Gemini users prefer voice interaction to typing prompts. The company also noted that busy parents are 43% more likely to use voice commands for everyday tasks.

Google's report also highlighted that one in five interactions with Gemini involves screen sharing and live camera feeds. Over 100 million of Gemini's monthly active users are Apple Inc. (AAPL  ) users, who reportedly use Gemini around two times more than users on other platforms. The report also brought attention to Gemini's image generation tool, which is increasingly popular among small businesses, generating around 150 million images daily.

CEO Sundar Pichai took to X to celebrate the milestone and stated that Google's Gemini app is the company's 14th product to reach this milestone and its fastest-growing ever.

He gave a shout-out to Josh Woodward, VP of Google Labs and Gemini, and thanked everyone who has been a part of this journey.

Google launched Gemini in 2024 and has expanded it across its browser, Android devices and Google Workspace. Its growing user base is intensifying competition with OpenAI's ChatGPT, which crossed the mark sometimes in June, becoming the first AI chatbot to reach the milestone.

Meanwhile, Anthropic's Claude reached 56 million global monthly active users in Q2 2026, marking a 640% year-over-year surge, according to Sensor Tower data cited by Reuters.

Notably, Google hit the 1 billion mark in less than a month after the company reported 950 million monthly users in its second quarter earnings report.

This milestone comes amid a backdrop of challenges and ambitious plans for Gemini. Earlier in July, there were reports of delays in the release of Gemini 3.5 Pro due to efforts to enhance the model's capabilities, particularly in coding. This delay raised concerns about Google losing ground in the competitive AI segment.

However, later in the month, Pichai hinted at ambitious plans for the next iteration, Gemini 4. Pichai's comments suggested that Google aims to compete at the frontier level of AI capabilities when Gemini 4 is released, signaling a proactive approach to staying ahead in the AI race.
