American movie theater chain AMC Entertainment (AMC  ) has recently announced that it would like to sell popcorn at mall kiosks, supermarkets, and convenience stores beginning in 2022.

AMC intends to come out with AMC Theatres Perfectly Popcorn stores, counters, and kiosks in shopping malls during the initial half of 2022, as well as 15 retail stores prior to 2023.

As part of the stores' features, they will have traditional and gourmet flavored popcorn, candy, Coca-Cola Freestyle (KO  ) machines, and bottled water. AMC has stated that its popcorn selling outside of the movie theaters is "a natural extension of AMC's core business."

"The announcement that AMC will become a competitor in the multi-billion popcorn market is so natural and logical, one wonders why the idea has not been tried before," Adam Aron, AMC's CEO and chairman of the board, said in a statement, quoted by CNBC. "Needless to say, AMC knows popcorn ever so well. On our busiest days, AMC Theatres currently pops in the range of 50 tons of popcorn per day. But the popularity of popcorn extends well beyond the doors of our movie theatres. With this new AMC initiative, we expect to reach entirely new segments of the U.S. population with our popular AMC Theatres Perfectly Popcorn."

AMC's overall outlook on the situation is that, especially since after the severity of the coronavirus pandemic on the theater industry, it is looking to come up with a whole new revenue system.

In addition to kiosks and other such outlets, AMC hopes to implement its popcorn services in home deliveries as well as through food delivery services.

Since AMC is a multi-billion dollar industry, it is anticipated to grow exponentially over the coming years. It will surely attract viewers further to its business, given that popcorn and food generally are both big hits and selling points for consumers. AMC Entertainment certainly has strong ways of bringing about revenue, given its popularity, so this particular market of popcorn will draw customers in to its business.
