Amazon.com Inc. (AMZN  ) stock traded lower by about 2% on Monday as risk appetite cooled across equities, keeping pressure on consumer-facing mega-caps. The Nasdaq is down 0.41% while the S&P 500 has shed 0.55%, and Consumer Discretionary is also softer (down 0.29%). The company's cloud unit, Amazon Web Services, is accelerating its cloud and AI expansion in Saudi Arabia as it prepares to launch a new Region, deepen its HUMAIN partnership, and scale AI infrastructure, while analysts expect AI demand to drive stronger AWS growth.

AWS is expanding its footprint in Saudi Arabia with a new cloud Region, additional AI infrastructure through HUMAIN, and broader investments in local cloud and AI adoption. It remains on track to launch in December.

The Region, first announced in March 2024, represents more than $5.3 billion in planned cloud infrastructure investment and will expand AWS Global Infrastructure to 40 Regions worldwide.

AWS CEO Matt Garman said the new Region and the company's partnership with HUMAIN will provide cloud and AI infrastructure designed to support new industries, jobs and Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 goals.

AWS And HUMAIN Expand AI Infrastructure

Saudi Arabia's first AI Zone will get up to 50 MW of capacity from AWS and HUMAIN by 2028 under an expanded strategic collaboration.

The buildout will feature AWS Trainium chips and NVIDIA Corp's (NVDA  ) latest AI infrastructure for training and inference.

HUMAIN's Arabic LLM ALLAM will launch on Amazon Bedrock, and HUMAIN Fabric will be sold through AWS Marketplace, giving developers, startups and enterprises more options to run applications and serve users from data centers inside Saudi Arabia.

Abdul Latif Jameel, Almosafer, stc Group and Red Bull Mobile plan to run AI workloads on AWS. stc Group also struck a separate strategic collaboration with AWS, while ZainTECH signed a multi-year deal to help organizations adopt AWS technology.

AWS is expanding workforce development through Amazon Academy, targeting training for more than 100,000 Saudi citizens, plus a separate program offering free training to up to 10,000 women. The company is also building two innovation centers in Saudi Arabia to mentor startups and entrepreneurs.

Analysts See AI Driving Faster AWS Growth

Rosenblatt analyst Scott Devitt initiated coverage of Amazon with a Buy rating and a $335 price target, arguing that investors undervalue its AI opportunity. Devitt expects AWS growth to reach 45% by the end of 2026, above the Street's 38% estimate, and projects annual AWS revenue will exceed $335 billion by 2028.

Citizens analyst Andrew Boone reiterated a Market Outperform rating and a $315 price forecast. Boone views strong growth at OpenAI and Anthropic as a positive signal for AWS and expects rising AI usage to drive demand for cloud infrastructure. He also believes hyperscalers are unlikely to face significant excess server capacity.
