CVS Health to close about 900 stores over the next three years:

CVS Health (CVS  ) announced Thursday that it will close about 900 stores over the next three years as the company looks to focus more of its efforts on its digital strategy. Moving forward, CVS plans to turn its stores into healthcare destination that offer services from flu shots to diagnostic tests.

The company will start closing locations in spring 2022, with CVS expecting to close about 300 locations per year. In total, the closures will be roughly 9% of CVS' nearly 10,000 U.S. brick-and-mortar locations.

CVS did not disclose how the store closures will affect employees, but said it will help those impacted by the change find a different opportunity or role at another location.

"Our retail stores are fundamental to our strategy and who we are as a company," CEO Karen Lynch said in a press release. "We remain focused on the competitive advantage provided by our presence in thousands of communities across the country, which complements our rapidly expanding digital presence."
