Last year in the summer, Twitter executive Kayvon Beykpour told reporters that he believes that Twitter should have an edit button. "Honestly, it's a feature that I think we should build at some point," Beykpour stated, "But it's not anywhere near the top of our priorities." However, as stated previously, Dorsey had other thoughts about the situation. During a video Q&A with the Wired, Dorsey explained his thinking process. He explained that an edit button would mislead people. More importantly, Dorsey believed that an edit button would undermine the original design of the platform. "We started as an SMS, text message service. And as you all know, when you send a text, you can't really take it back," he said. "We wanted to preserve that vibe, that feeling, in the early days."
An editing feature has been a heavily debated concept among Twitter users for many years. High-profile Twitter users, like Kim Kardashian West, expressed their strong desire for an edit button. Jack Dorsey has stated that an edit button does have some positives. He said that there are good reasons for editing tweets like fixing typos and broken links. "So, these are all the considerations," said Dorsey, "But we'll probably never do it."
Other than an edit button, the company expressed that there are a few other features they are considering to add to Twitter. Another feature that is a metric on each tweet that shows how many times the link to the tweet has been copied and shared to others is also being considered by Twitter.
A Twitter user questioned, "Instead of an edit feature, Twitter should allow users to see how many times a tweet link has been copied. Because we all send tweets with a 'did you see this one?!' message." Dorsey replied, "I agree that is a pretty good idea. We'll look at that one." It is highly likely that an edit button will never come, but due to people's support and want for an editing button and other features shows that Dorsey and the company still have a lot to think about.
