According to various survey conducted by Forrester, teenagers prefer ByteDance's TikTok over Meta's (FB  ) Instagram. Throughout this past year alone, 63% of Americans who are aged 12 through 17 tend to utilize TikTok weekly, whereas 57% of teens use Instagram, based on the survey.

In the survey that Forrester conducted, it decided to discover the reasons for teenagers' preference of TikTok over Instagram. They are: entertainment value; short-form variety; and the opportunity for self-expression. Teenagers especially cherish entertainment because they believe that having fun and engagement on social media platforms is important to them. "It has funnier videos" is the statement that teenagers typically report when asked why they value TikTok over Instagram.

In terms of short-form variety, TikTok stands as a valuable way of passing the time. It means that very short video clips are shown to users that contain a vast array of themes and content. Users are able to scroll through the material rather quickly because of the videos and their short length, but are also able to be engaged because the videos are so entertaining.

TikTok videos, as discovered lastly in the survey, allow the opportunity for positive self-expression. The "positivity of TikTok" was noted by several teenage users, which focuses on their ability to freely express themselves, and some users are being motivated by notions of popularity and fame. On the other hand, Instagram has suffered a great deal of difficulty lately.

There has been internal research conducted by Facebook (now known as Meta) that has conveyed the damaging impact of Instagram as a whole, especially on young girls. TikTok seems to be a much more positive platform for self-expression, according to such research.

Since TikTok is so appreciated and preferred over Instagram, especially in the eyes of teenagers, it will likely receive far more success rates. Both social media platforms have their strengths and weaknesses, but overall, TikTok seems to be much more appreciated and applauded, thus proving it to be far more widely used.
