Time to level up. Video game companies are always researching new technology to improve their next console. Sony's (SNE  ) PlayStation may be doing this by collaborating with Samsung (KRX:005930). With PlayStation 5 said to launch late next year, rumors have started to form around the console. A key feature may be coming to PlayStation 5 with the help of Samsung if rumors are to be believed.

Daniel Ahmad, Niko Partners senior analyst, informed reporters that PlayStation 5 will have faster load time thanks to Samsung SSD. According to Ahmad's report, during Samsung's recent presentation they announced that they were currently working on a Non-Volatile Memory express (NVMe) SSD that would be used in a console coming in 2020. During the presentation, Samsung showed the loading time comparisons between a HDD, a regular SSD, and the upcoming Non-Volatile Memory express SSDs. Samsung had slides that explained compared game launch time with HDD taking 38 seconds, SSDs taking 13 seconds and NVMe SSDs take a shorter, but undisclosed amount of time. PlayStation 5 was never explicitly stated to be that console at the center of the show. However, in one of the slides during the presentation, viewers could clearly see a PlayStation DualShock controller being used in the comparisons. During his time with the consoles, Tech journalist Takashi Mochizuki shared a tweet comparing the loading time of the game, Spider-Man, on both the PS4 and PS5. On the PS4 Pro, the game took 8.10 seconds to load up while it took 0.8 seconds on the PS5.

Samsung has stated that this new feature will bring about a new era in game consoles. Sony has not confirmed or denied the claims that have been made. However, in previous announcement, Sony has said that their new console will greatly reduce load time. We will learn more about the release date of the console as time goes on. However, recent leaks tells us that the PlayStation 5 will be coming out late November 2020.
