OpenAI plans to add 200 jobs in Ireland and open a Dublin-based applied AI lab to help European businesses deploy AI tools.
According to foreign investment agency IDA Ireland, the new roles will cover engineering, customer-facing technical support, business operations, go-to-market, and user operations. Specific positions for the new lab include forward-deployed, solutions, and privacy engineers.
The push brings OpenAI's total 2026 job commitments in Ireland to at least 450, expanding on its current workforce of over 120 employees.
Dublin Becomes OpenAI's EU Hub
OpenAI is preparing to move into a new European Union headquarters at Dublin's Tropical Fruit Warehouse. Occupancy will begin in December.
The announcement comes three years after the company established its EU headquarters in Dublin.
Irish Prime Minister Micheál Martin joined OpenAI CFO Sarah Friar and IDA Ireland CEO Michael Lohan to mark the investment.
Martin described the expansion as "a vote of confidence in the strength of our people, economy and ecosystem, which sets Ireland apart."
Friar said Ireland had been "critical to our success in Europe" since OpenAI opened its Dublin headquarters.
Startup And Small Business Programs
The company also plans a so-called "Founder Cafe," which it pitched as a networking initiative run with Irish startup hub Dogpatch Labs, and additional SME Academy events.
The next round of SME Academy events is scheduled to begin in Cork in November.
"OpenAI's plan to invest even further at their EU HQ here highlights the strength of Ireland's technical talent and business environment. Our depth of expertise, innovation ecosystem and access to Europe make Ireland an attractive place to grow - and I would like to wish OpenAI every success with their future growth plans in Ireland," Lohan added.
