Microsoft (MSFT  ) unveiled on Thursday its plans to launch Microsoft Viva, which will become a key component of Microsoft Teams. Viva would enable the Microsoft Office branch to stand out and earn more profits in the long-term, as well as to compete against companies such as Salesforce's (CRM  ) Slack, which was recently acquired for $27.7 billion.

Viva is designed to help employees thrive in the workplace. Some of the key ways in which Viva will permit employees to reap benefits from online information are in gaining access to online encyclopedias that have been constructed by corporate files, as well as tool managers that can be utilized to assess work productivity.

Initially, it was available only in Microsoft Teams, and although there have been other Microsoft products that have come with the same or similar features.

"What our customers are telling us is they want something more preconfigured, simple and mobile that brings all those things together," said Seth Patton, a Microsoft general manager, in a CNBC interview.

Viva Insights, one aspect of Viva, is also attempting to work with other tools developed by companies such as Workday (WDAY  ) and Zoom (ZM  ) in order to prepare companies to go back into the workplace as the coronavirus vaccine becomes more readily available and trustworthy.

There are four key areas that Microsoft Viva, as part of Microsoft Teams, has sought to implement within their company: Engagement, Wellbeing, Learning, and Knowledge. They are the components of Viva and of the company of Microsoft as a whole that encourage employees to live to their maximum potential and to perform in the workplace in a manner that is conducive to ways that will cause them to thrive.

Overall, Microsoft Viva is a new product that will cause workers to thrive in the workplace, but also challenge them to utilize the products that they have and need. The workplace has experienced many significant changes since the start of the coronavirus pandemic, and Microsoft's Viva is aimed at helping make the transition to a more digital work environment easier for both employers and employees.
