Frozen 2, Disney's (DIS  ) most promising movie this winter, has made box office history once again, after achieving the biggest opening weekend in earnings of all time for an animated movie.

By last weekend, Frozen 2 had made $358 million in its first three days of theatrical release in 37 countries, including the U.S. and China .

In particular, Frozen 2 debuted to $53 million over the weekend in China, the strongest start historically for a Pixar or Disney Animation movie in the country. The total box office has surpassed the total China revenue for the last Frozen, which earned $48.2 million back in 2014.

Frozen 2 outperformed all of its competitors, including both Chinese and Western movies, in China last weekend, leading the pack to top the local box office with a $53.2 million debut. It was also the third-highest opening weekend ever for an animated film in China.

Frozen 2 currently has viewer ratings of 9 and 7.3 out of 10 on the Maoyan and Douban platforms, which are two of the major ratings platforms in China. Musical animation movies have historically not been very popular in China, but this trend has been largely shifted by the outstanding performance of Frozen 2.

China leads all markets with $53 million for the third best animated debut ever and the top start for a Disney Animation/Pixar film (overtaking Zootopia and Coco). Korea is next at $31.5 million for the third highest industry opening weekend ever (behind only Avengers: Endgame and Along With The Gods 2). Japan, which was the major market on the original film, opened with $18.2 million to secure the best start for a Disney Animation/Pixar movie ever (same in Spain, Germany and more).

In IMAX, Frozen 2 iced the all-time biggest opening for an animated title, earning $18 million globally and toppling Incredibles 2's $15.6 million debut. Internationally, the film delivered $9.7 million making it the biggest IMAX opening for an animated film overseas. Similar records were set in China, Korea and Germany among others.

Disney has so far made about $3.5 billion at the box office this year thanks to a string of hits including Avengers: Endgame, which overtook Titanic to be the top-grossing film of all time, The Lion King and Aladdin. The entertainment giant is set for a bumper festive season with the release of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, expected to be another billion-dollar global hit. Five Disney films have so far made more than $1 billion at the box office this year, including Captain Marvel and Toy Story 4.
