Walt Disney Co (DIS  ) has chosen to stall the release of the Marvel Studios movie "Black Widow" until the month of July. At the same time, it is going to offer the movie both in theaters as well as on the Disney+ platform and streaming service.

Theater owners had been anticipating that "Black Widow," starting out at a fresh summer season in early May, would hopefully attract the crowds back to the theaters after being closed for so long due to the coronavirus.

In addition, Disney revealed that it is going to present the live-action film "Cruella" for a price on the same day that it goes into theaters on May 28. "Cruella" and "Black Widow" will cost an additional $30 each to stream at home.

Although many more people will hopefully be drawn to the theaters, especially with vaccinations being delivered more quickly, Disney will likely have many customers who will prefer to see their movies at home. With so many delays in the business, from various films such as "Free Guy," "The King's Man," "Deep Water," and "Death on the Nile."

Kareem Daniel, chairman of Disney Media and Entertainment Distribution, said, "Today's announcement reflects our focus on providing consumer choice and serving the evolving preferences of audiences."

Disney also has delayed the release of a good deal of its other films, such as "Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings." Not only that, but the Disney Plus subscription is expected to rise this year to $7.99 per month, or $79.99 per year, according to Yahoo! Finance. This will surely cause customers to test their level of commitment to Disney Plus as a whole.

All in all, Disney Plus has great aspirations to release the films "Black Widow" and "Cruella" - but many more customers are tending to prefer to watch their movies from home nowadays, even if Disney Plus's prices are being raised. These films have hopes for high success rates, but it will be difficult to gauge unless true feedback from consumers is received.
