Cortana is Microsoft's (MSFT  ) digital assistant whose mission is to help you get things done. Unfortunately, Apple (APPL  ) and Android (GOOGL  ) users will soon have to say good-bye to the Windows's virtual assistant.

During Microsoft's Ignite conference this month, the company announced that Microsoft plans to shut down Cortana's mobile app. The app is currently available on several markets such as iOS and Android. Howbeit, Microsoft plans to take it off such platforms by January 31, 2020. Microsoft said it will be integrating Cortana into the Microsoft 365 productivity apps. As a result, users will no longer be able to access their Cortana content through iOS and Android versions they currently use. However, they will still have accessible through the Windows version, though the Cortana mobile app will no longer be supported according to Microsoft Support. Microsoft recommends users to look for their Cortana content though the Cortana app on Windows 10 or the Microsoft To Do App that will still be on the market.

"Cortana is an integral part of our broader vision to bring the power of conversational computing and productivity to all our platforms and devices," a Microsoft spokesperson told reporters from TechCrunch, "To make Cortana as helpful as possible, we're integrating Cortana deeper into your Microsoft 365 productivity apps, and part of this evolution involves ending support for the Cortana mobile app on Android and iOS."

It is no secret that Cortana is losing to its rivals such as Apple's Siri, Amazon's (AMZN  ) Alexa and Google Assistant. As a result this decision by Microsoft, an effort has been make to make Cortana a more effective and streamline virtual assistant for users. Cortana mobile app will be shut down in several regions including Great Britain, Australia, Germany, Mexico, China, Spain, Canada, and India. There has been no word yet on what will happen to the app in the U.S. However, it is highly likely the app will leave the U.S. market as well at a later date.
