American Airlines Group Inc. (AAL  ) shares are trading lower Monday. Two analysts cut their price targets on the stock. Here's what you need to know.

Two Analysts Lower Their American Airlines Price Targets

BMO Capital analyst Michael Goldie maintained a Market Perform rating on American Airlines while lowering the price target to $15.50 from $19. Evercore ISI analyst Duane Pfennigwerth maintained an In-Line rating while cutting the price target to $13 from $17.

American Airlines carries an overall Hold rating on Wall Street, with an average price target of $18. Other recent analyst actions include Rothschild & Co raising its target to $13.50 while maintaining a Neutral rating on September 18.

American Airlines' Chart Shows a Well-Defended Floor Amid a Weakening Ceiling

Beyond today's analyst moves, the stock's broader chart shows momentum fading at the top even as a new floor holds firm underneath. Shares couldn't climb back to July's $18 peak during August's rebound, which stalled out at $17.13. The subsequent decline broke straight through the old lows near $13.32 to $13.42 and settled into fresh territory around $12.54 to $12.59, a floor tested four separate times over roughly a week in mid-September, with each touch landing within a nickel of the others.

Buyers then pushed the stock back up to $14.07 by September 22, reclaiming the previous $13.32-to-$13.42 zone that had already failed twice earlier in the summer, a signal that tends to carry more weight than a standard bounce. Shares now trade around $13.59, sitting in the middle of that recovered range.

Looking ahead, the key levels to watch are whether $13.32 to $13.42 continues acting as support on any pullback, which would validate the recovery, and whether the stock can clear meaningfully above the $14.07 September high.
