Recently, Amazon's (AMZN  ) IMDb TV made the announcement that they are now going to be referred to as "Amazon Freevee," a name that is intended to highlight the fact that the platform is free of charge to their viewers, in spite of any advertisements on it.

Freevee Director Ashraf Alkarmi described the platform as one that is intended to attract customers who desire to view "premium" series and movies that do not have many advertisements, in a press release that recently came out.

"Customers are increasingly shifting to streaming ad-supported premium content, and we have developed Freevee to deliver them highly sought content with half the commercials of traditional TV," Alkarmi said in a statement. "Our new name clearly communicates who we are: An easy-to-navigate streaming service, available to users for free, whenever and wherever they choose to watch some of the greatest Original and licensed content available."

In 2022 alone, Freevee intends to put in 70% more new material, which includes dramas, rom-coms, and home-design series. Some of the names of these shows include 'Bosch: Legacy', 'Sprung', and 'High School'. A complete list of material has not yet been made available from Amazon.

Whether or not Freevee will continue on will heavily depend upon viewer interest. But if goes in the future as it did in the past, it will surely be successful. There is, of course, no guarantee that it will succeed, but co-heads of content and programming for Freevee have expressed full faith in the service.

"We have been delighted by the viewer response to our modern television network in a streaming landscape," said Lauren Anderson and Ryan Pirozzi, co-heads of content and programming for Freevee, in a statement. "With Freevee, our current and future viewers will discover a home that allows creative talent the freedom to tell impactful, entertaining, and inspiring stories; a service accessible to all and freed from time-slot restrictions and device availability; and a destination that provides customers with both new and familiar, escapist and engaging content - free of charge."
