Adobe Inc (ADBE  ) announced the beta launch of AI Assistant, a new feature powered by generative AI in Reader and Acrobat, designed to enhance document workflows.

This AI assistant, now in beta, can summarize documents and respond to queries directly within Acrobat, with plans to extend these features to Reader shortly.

Adobe intends to introduce a subscription model for this assistant once it exits the beta phase.

This tool can simplify the processing of lengthy documents by providing concise summaries and answering specific questions through a conversational interface.

It can even suggest potential inquiries related to the document's content. Additionally, the assistant can generate citations for source verification and formatting text for various uses, such as emails, presentations, and reports. Unlike similar AI models like ChatGPT, which require document uploads, Adobe's assistant is conveniently integrated into the applications.

Adobe CEO Shantanu Narayen emphasized the assistant's role in democratizing access to many PDFs, enhancing user engagement with documents through summaries, conversations, and integrations with other documents and enterprise-wide information in a CNBC interview.

The launch comes as OpenAI recently introduced Sora, a tool for creating realistic, high-definition videos from text prompts.

Narayen addressed potential competition by highlighting Adobe's ongoing development of video models, underscoring the company's commitment to applying AI technology responsibly across its tools and workflows.

Abhigyan Modi, Adobe's senior vice president of Document Cloud, highlighted the potential of generative AI to revolutionize document handling by making PDF content more accessible and professionally presented.

This introduction aims to tap into the vast potential of the 3 trillion PDFs globally, transforming them into actionable knowledge.
