OpenAI is reportedly in early discussions with major investors for a fresh capital raise that could value the ChatGPT maker at roughly $1.2 trillion.

OpenAI Investors Circle $1.2 Trillion Valuation

Investors have approached OpenAI about a new funding round. The talks are still in the early stages, and the potential valuation could change as discussions progress, the Financial Times reported Tuesday, citing people familiar with the matter.

OpenAI did not immediately respond to Benzinga's request for comment.

ChatGPT-maker's latest funding round closed in March with $122 billion in committed capital, giving the company a valuation of $852 billion.

The funding discussions come shortly after CEO Sam Altman said OpenAI would not go public in 2026. Altman cited concerns surrounding AI safety when discussing the company's IPO plans.

OpenAI and rival Anthropic have called for greater AI regulation, arguing that safeguards are needed as the technology develops and concerns grow around security and misuse.

Anthropic Moves Toward IPO

While OpenAI plans to remain private this year, Anthropic is reportedly preparing to begin marketing its IPO as early as mid-October.

The company could complete its listing shortly before the U.S. midterm elections in November.
