Finding your trading niche.

I always know when earnings season is coming. My day trading friends get all excited as if their birthday is approaching. The thought of a higher level of activity in stocks, along with the number of stocks to trade each day gets them so excited. One person in particular even changes their diet during this time, making sure not to eat excessively or drink alcohol. While this may sound extreme (it is), it really shows the importance of finding your niche in the trading world.

There are so many ways to invest or trade the markets. Not only the product selection, but strategy as well. It can, and is overwhelming. You can always tell when a person has a niche and when they don't. The ones that try and trade everything all the time are always complaining and feel like they are behind.

Think of the world of medicine for a minute. There are lots of areas of practice that it would be impossible for one person to master each. So, during medical school, soon to be physicians choose the path that they would like to specialize in.

Think of every choice you have in the markets. What excites you the most? Do you get as excited as a kid before his birthday when earnings season approaches? Do you love when the markets experience long down trending moves so you can load up positions for the next few years? Are you someone that likes to build a balanced portfolio of options and actively shift them around? It is important that you find this niche and specialize in it. The greatest athletes on the planet are doing it because they love to do it. The money comes with the success. I can promise you that the traders I know that are super wealthy specialize in one style and have never wavered from it.
