Epic Games Launches First NFT Game

Last month, a NFT-inspired game called "Blankos Block Party" was launched on the Epic Games Store, which made it the very first Web3 game to ever be produced on the PC gaming marketplace.

In terms of how it is played, Blankos Block Party enables users to play and work together in a colorful online setting. This type of online world is particularly influenced by vinyl and designer toys. NFTs are utilized in this game in order to signify rare or lesser known products like avatar designs and accessories. These types of items can also be purchased through the Blankos Block Party marketplace.

Blankos Block Party has been brought about since its owner, Mythical Games, has raised $150 million in a Series C funding round. It is essentially a game that is free of charge to play but also is centered around the purchase of Blankos, which are NFTs that can be played with throughout the game.

Ever since its release, Blankos Block Party has allured brand and artist collaborations like Burberry, Atari, and Deadmau5. Initially, the game's marketplace, Epic Games, did not intend to utilize NFTs or Web3 technology, but will still permit gaming companies to implement these types of technologies into their games.

"Epic Games Store will welcome games that make use of blockchain tech provided they follow the relevant laws, disclose their terms, and are age-rated by an appropriate group," Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney wrote in a tweet. "Though Epic's not using crypto in our games, we welcome innovation in the areas of technology and finance."

The full version became available on September 28 with much more content and features expected to launch in the future. The game runs on Mythical Games' "Mythical Platform," which ultimately leads to the NFT network Ethereum. In the meantime, Mythical Games is in the midst of establishing other games like the NFL Rivals.
