Dell Technologies Inc. (NYSE:DELL) stock fell about 7% Thursday as broad technology weakness, renewed supply-chain concerns and profit-taking outweighed recent optimism around AI server demand.
The decline outpaced the Technology sector's roughly 3% drop and came as the S&P 500 fell more than 1%.
AI Server Demand Remains A Key Driver
Earlier this week, AI server rival Super Micro Computer Inc. (NASDAQ:SMCI) raised its first-quarter revenue outlook to $18.5 billion-$19.5 billion from $14.5 billion-$15.5 billion, reinforcing expectations for continued spending on AI servers and infrastructure.
Dell also used NVIDIA Corp. (NASDAQ:NVDA) GTC to expand its Dell AI Factory platform with new deskside options for agentic AI and modular infrastructure.
The company said enterprise customers using the platform rose to more than 6,500, up from 5,000 in the previous quarter.
Supply Bottlenecks Add Timing Risk
Investor attention also shifted toward supply bottlenecks after AI infrastructure peer Lam Research Corp. (NASDAQ:LRCX) warned that near-term constraints could push some December-quarter shipments into March.
Lam still reported a record 40.2% operating margin and guided December-quarter revenue to $8.2 billion-$9.0 billion, compared with the $8.53 billion consensus estimate.
The update kept investors focused on whether supply constraints could delay AI and data-center infrastructure deployments.
Profit-Taking Follows Major 2026 Rally
Dell's pullback also followed a sharp run. Shares have gained more than 260% in 2026, supported by investor enthusiasm around the AI infrastructure buildout.
That strong performance left the stock vulnerable to profit-taking during Thursday's broader technology selloff.
Analysts Remain Bullish Overall
Dell carries a Buy consensus rating with an average price forecast of $584.76, with targets ranging from $460 to $735 across 50 analysts.
Barclays downgraded Dell to Equal-Weight and lowered its forecast to $574 on Oct. 14. Mizuho maintained Outperform and raised its forecast to $650 on Oct. 6, while TD Cowen maintained Hold and increased its forecast to $550 on Sept. 29.
Top ETF Exposure
The Investment House ETF (NASDAQ:TIH) holds 4.75% in Dell, the Tortoise AI Infrastructure ETF (NYSE:TCAI) carries a 5.40% weight and the Simplify Affinity World Leaders Equity ETF (BATS:WLDR) holds 7.97%.
Because Dell represents a meaningful portion of these funds, significant ETF inflows or outflows can translate into corresponding buying or selling activity in the stock.
